TEDx Western Canada HS SPEAKERS 2026
Who We Are

Josselyn Sun
Josselyn is a Grade 10 student with interests in various fields, including physics, reading and tennis. Having navigated significant cultural transitions during her teenage years, she became interested in how people define themselves, including when familiar structures shift or disappear. Her TEDx talk redefines the notion of "Square One". She translates personal experience into broader ideas that encourage audiences to rethink uncertainty, autonomy, and the process of self-definition during periods of change.
Arian Hussaini
Arian is a Grade 11 IB Student at Henry Wise Wood High School who a) regrets taking IB, and b) likes public speaking. He’s a pretty accomplished talker who truly enjoys it as a hobby. If he’s not procrastinating studying for upcoming tests, he loves to learn more about the universe and cool new tech and even develop projects of his own. He has found an outlet in exploring the world at a minute-scale through quantum computing and particle physics. Yet, he hates the fact he has to choose between STEM and the arts, so he’s embraced them both! Why choose between STEM and the arts when you can master both?

Alexandra Pignatel
Hi everyone! My name is Alex and I am so excited to be given the opportunity to speak at TEDx! I’m an 11th grader at Ernest Manning, and love to connect with other people by speaking and sharing common passions. I love being able to help people through sharing my own experiences, and I’m hoping TEDx will help me achieve that goal. Outside of that, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family, trying new foods, dancing, skiing, and sometimes dabbling in painting or photography! My favourite subject is math or biology, although I sometimes question why I take it , and I have a passion for all things related to the brain. I am beyond excited to be apart of the TEDx community this year!

Additionally, Spencer ran the organization's Ambassador Program, selecting applicants to represent the group at high schools across Calgary. She also demonstrated her aptitude for leadership by serving as president of her high school debate club and vice president of her Model UN club over the past year. This year, Spencer has taken on the role of Executive of Events for the Youth Policy Council, a political and research network designed for youth by youth. Sofia Nenshi Nathoo
Sofia is a grade 11 student at Sir Winston Churchill high school. She has had a strong passion for public speaking since a young age. When she was two years old, she would memorize and recite poetry to her family for fun and she is now an active member of her high school’s debate and speech teams. Sofia’s hope is to use her voice to be the change she wants to see in such a polarized world. In her free time, she’s often writing short stories, watching an episode of Gilmore Girls, or baking (and afterwards, eating) chocolate chip cookies.

Teaghan Gorman-Peña
Teaghan Gorman-Peña is a Grade 10 student attending Renert School. Deeply invested in social advocacy and communication, she has developed a strong love for anything speech and debate related, including TEDx. At school, taking every admittedly nerdy social science class she can, Teaghan can be found constantly laughing and overanalyzing just about everything. Outside of academics, Teaghan enjoys FaceTiming her friends, chronically playing the New York Times Games, and claiming she “works better under pressure”
